Mental health: Anxiousness

We’re in a bit of a strange time these months. We moved from Japan to Thailand and had a ‘soft landing’ so to speak, moving into a beautiful suite in the hotel my husband started working. The only things I had to take care of upon arrival were the suitcases, settling my kids in school and sending a list to the Chef and Housekeeping manager for our preferences. Amazing, right??

However, this temporary living arrangement is coming to an end, which means that we are moving again. This time it is a little bit more complicated - still doable, of course and especially because of all the help available (grateful!) but it is causing me quite a bit of stress. And apparently my body has decided that the last 6 months or so, even though it’s been pretty smooth sailing and easy, has all been a bit too much. Result: an overproduction of cortisol and quite a few systems out of wack.

Don’t worry - I’ve seen a naturopath and had bloodwork done, and I’m on the path to healing. It is a frustrating journey though, especially as I used to perform so well under stress ‘when younger.’ Anyone recognize this? Turning 40, even though I was so happy about it, is definitely a different era!

ANYWAY…

After posting about anxiety on Instagram, I received a lot of advice and tips to reduce that ‘heart beating out of your chest’ feeling of overwhelm. I thought it would be good to share it here as an overview.

  • Meditation & yoga

  • Sharing the things your anxious about with someone you trust

  • Talking to a professional (for me, that is my life coach)

  • Making sure to get enough sleep

  • Essential oils; orange or lavender to inhale. In the diffuser: Valor, Peace & Calming, Frankincense. CBD oil.

  • Reduce caffeine intake

  • Stop reading the news

  • Make sure you are hydrated and eat plenty of fruits

  • Brain dump everything that’s in your head, onto paper

  • Adaptogens (herbal supplement)

  • Exercising, low impact like swimming or walking

  • The PEAT technique - which I still have to check out what it is exactly

  • Talking to friends

  • Easy to-do list

  • Music to lift you up

My current musical obsession - even though it is a haunting melody, it kind of calms me down when playing on repeat!
